Jayashree Ramasamy

Jayashree Ramasamy @ Jay

Jayashree was born in 1964 in Kuala Lumpur.

She studied Architectural draftsmanship. After ten

years in this industry, she joined Symbols House

of Natural Art. She learnt extensively, through

“gurukulam” an ancient art of learning from artist

Jeganathan Ramachandram. Four years ago

under his mentorship, she started doing art full

time. She does figurative symbolism that allows

her to express freely. Nature and environmental

issues are close to her heart and currently she is

working on a series on this subject matter.

Kathiravan Subramaniam

Kathiravan Subramaniam

Kathir Subramaniam was born in 1970 in Perak.

An engineer by profession, he spent almost all

his free time drawing portraits. Whilst he had

no formal training in art, he pursued his passion

by learning from art books and websites. He

frequented the Pasar Seni in Kuala Lumpur and

art galleries abroad which nourished him. In 2009,

his life took a turn when he met artist Jeganathan

Ramachandram. Symbols Art Club, the brainchild

of Jeganathan was formed and Kathir became the

secretary of the club. Recently, his style of painting

has shifted from portraits to opinion-oriented

themes.

Lakshmi Muthupalaniyappan

Lakshmi Muthupalaniyappan

Lakshmi was born in 1966 in Kedah and learnt

Batik, Copper-tooling, Printing, Woodworking

and Mosaic Art. However, due to parental and

community restrictions, any ambition she had to

nurture this passion, was quickly extinguished.

She was looking for inner peace and she found

just that, when she picked up the brush 10 years

ago and started to paint. She learned much from

books, experimenting with different mediums and

traveling to different countries. After meeting artist

Jeganathan Ramachandram in February 2010,

she experimented with new ideas.

Malliga Selathurai

Malliga Selathurai

Malliga was born in 1950 in Perak. She is an art

teacher and is currently conducting art training for

preschool teachers under a foundation. She started

painting at the age of five and is still painting at

sixty. She had worked on various mediums. She is

currently dabbling in symbolic abstraction. Malliga is

also the President of Symbols Art Club.

Manon Maney Ramadass

Manon Maney Ramadass

Art has been coursing through her veins since

Mano was a young child. She remembers watching

and being inspired by the many drawings by her

mother. She appreciates art at all levels and find

that she can lose a part of herself every time she

gazes at a painting. Following her quest to perfect

her art, she met artist Jeganathan Ramachandram

who became a catalyst in fulfilling her passion.

Today, she has traveled thus far and will be

exhibiting in her second exhibition.

Mohana Kumara Velu @ Mona Kv

Mohana Kumara Velu @ Mona Kv

Mohana was born in 1988 in Johor. After

high school, she completed a three-month Water

Colour Course at the National Art Gallery under

the guidance of artist Maamor Jantan. Soon

after, she completed a three-year apprenticeship

with artist Jeganathan Ramachandram through

“Gurukulam”, an ancient Indian system of learning.

She says, “The system allowed me to acquire an

in-depth knowledge of the fine arts and gave me

the freedom to experiment with artistic ideas and

concepts.” She is currently pursuing a Fine Art

Diploma at the Malaysia Institute of Art (MIA).

Norjan Ismail

Norjan was born in 1955 in Penang. She has

always been intrigued by the motifs in the Persian

carpets which she sold. That triggered the interest

in art and she took up art classes many years

ago but had to stop due to family commitments.

Meeting the art teacher again after many years,

prompted her to resume the classes. Currently

she is working on doing portraits and has been

spending her time studying the facial features of people.

Pariselvam Parisithu

Pariselvam was born in 1979 in Kuala Lumpur.

He studied graphic design and has been with

a few daily newspapers for the past decade.

He is currently a senior graphic designer with

Malay Mail and enjoys a flair for caricatures. He

has been taking art classes from Jeganathan

Ramachandram for the past three years and has

found abstract art as a medium to express his

concern over environmental issues.

Rajasegar A. Subramaniam

Rajasegar A. Subramaniam

Rajasegar was born in 1968 in Kuala Lumpur.

He began by drawing cartoon characters and

his passion for art bloomed after reading local

magazines. Meanwhile, he expanded a family

transport business and pursued a career in

teaching martial arts. He was drawing portraits

when he took up classes with artist Jeganathan

Ramachandram, who then guided him to expand

his knowledge of art.

Rohini Indran

Rohini Indran

Rohini was born in 1979 in Petaling Jaya. She is a

Communications Executive who did a foundation

course in Art and Design. She has been learning

art under the guidance of artist Jeganathan

Ramachandram since 2005. She derives her

inspiration from subject matters that are close to

her heart and teaches art to orphans.

Sharmini Thangarajah

Sharmini was born in 1974 in Perak. She is an

Accountant with a heart of an artist. In 2009, after

years of searching, she was fortunate enough

to pursue this passion under the tutelage of Mr

Jeganathan Ramachandram and now she sees

herself constantly evolving as an aspiring artist.

She gains her inspiration from the everyday

subject matters around her and her passion for the

environment is clearly seen in her works.

Santhi Maniam

Santhi Maniam

Santhi was born in 1970 in Kuala Lumpur. The last

12 years were spent on her career as a Management

Consultant. However, she now dedicates her time

and energy as an artist. She started exploring art

in 2005 through her mentor, friend and art teacher

Jeganathan Ramachandram. Santhi travels

extensively for work and pleasure. She draws and

seeks inspiration from all things around her. These

images are captured symbolically in her works.

Sharon Shanti Chandran

Sharon Shanti Chandran

Sharon was born in 1972 in Perak. Her background

is in Biophysics Medicine, however her first love

has always been art. In her eyes, the world is a

diverse mix of cultures and colours on a huge

canvas and she believes art is therapy for her.

Her vocation requires her to travel extensively and

this has been a perfect avenue for her to enrich

her experience.

Sathi Koka

Sathi Koka

Sathi was born in 1972 in New Delhi, India. She

has always been interested in interior decoration

and indian ornaments though she never painted.

After coming to Malaysia, she took up art with

artist Jeganathan Ramachandram. Though she

initially treated art as a hobby, the many interesting

aspects of art soon attracted her and for the past

two years have been attending classes. She knows

it will take years to understand art but for now she

believes in the wonder of learning new things!

Smita Pathak

Smita was born in 1963 in Kolkata, India. She

has a Masters in Social Work and a Degree in

Psychology. She worked as a Counselor and

was also the Special Educator to Intellectually

challenged Children. She has always been

connected to some form of arts, be it vocal music

or creating artifacts. She has learnt various forms

of art, ranging from Batik to Copper Tooling and

Japanese Ikebana. Currently she has been taking

art classes and she uses her story-telling ability to paint.

Suseela Thevi Suppiah

Suseelathevi was born in 1959 in Petaling Jaya. A

medical doctor by profession, she encountered art

when she followed her daughter to her art classes.

With no prior inclinations towards art, she found

herself drawn to the beauty and therapeutic nature

of art. She has come across patients who have to

deal with all sorts of ailments both physical and

emotional. Her desire would be ultimately to use

art as a therapy for healing.

Vasudevan Nallathamby

Vasudevan Nallathamby

Vasudevan was born in 1974 in Penang. A self

taught artist, he has been working mainly on

portraits until recently. Much of his knowledge has

been derived from reading books and his constant

discussions and meetings with senior artists. In

2008, he met Jeganathan Ramachandram, his

mentor, and through his guidance, participated

in his first exhibition. He has done apprenticeship

under Abdul Rashid for two years.

Velankanni Sandanasamy

Velankanni Sandanasamy

Velankanni was born in 1973 in Penang. Her

passion for painting and drawing was always seen

throughout her school years and well into her

university days. She graduated with a Bachelor of

Arts with a minor in Fine Arts. She took part in most

of the in house exhibition held in campus. Though

family responsibilities and career had caused art

to take a back seat for many years, she has now

returned to pursue art on a full time basis. She has

always been fascinated with the human body and

its beauty seen from different perspectives. Thus

she has chosen figurative symbolism as her genre.
